Holmes & Edwards Inlaid Silver

For some reason, I've received a number of questions lately regarding Holmes & Edwards Inlaid Silver. Here's an article I wrote that should answer most questions. If it does not, leave a comment or send an email to me.

This is in response to mjl:

I had a lot of old sterling to be melted down and along with that, I had some pieces I could not readily identify. So the refiner person said they would melt that group down separately to see what we had. Normally, they would not accept silver plate but in this case, they did it as a favor to a regular customer.

By the way, I think 4% was high. This was good quality Reed & Barton stuff. I think most silver plate would yield a smaller percentage.

i would just like some info..I have what looks to be a butter knife and is dated 1890 and says edwards sterling inlaids...any idea of value?

This is in response to the question about a 1890 butter knife.

Most pieces of "inlaid" have a low value, maybe a dollar or so each. A serving piece like this might be worth a little more to someone adding to an existing set. If you can give me the pattern name, I might be able to be a bit more definitive.

I don't suppose you have a new link to that article you posted - the present one is dead. Thx.
